What is the Envirocycle Composter?​

The Envirocycle Composter is an innovative, all-in-one compositing system manufactured by Envirocycle Systems​ Inc. It comprises a compost tumbler drum and a compost tea maker base.

The bin produces both solid and liquid compost as a result. It comes in two different sizes, either 17 or 35 US Gallons.

The Benefits of ​Compost Tumblers

Compost tumblers make composting easy as they remove the hassle of having to turn the compost pile by hand.

In a regular open compost bin or compost pile this would usually be done with a pitch fork or similar tool. Turning the pile is critical to speed up the composting process by providing aeration and mixing the freshly added compost material with the older decomposing material.

The compost tumbler by contrast is a sealed container that can be rotated to mix the materials. Because the container is sealed, the heat generated from the composting process is kept in the container, further speeding up the conversion of the ingredients into compost.

WIth the Envirocycle Composter, the elegantly designed tumbler drum rotates on top of a base to create solid compost. Since the tumbler is a beautiful design, it looks great anywhere in a garden and can be placed in the most convenient location for easy access to it.

This is where the Envirocycle Composter differs from regular composting bins and tumblers - all the rest are not good looking and undeserving of a central location in your garden. Other compost bins are hidden away towards the back of the garden out of sight, but also out of mind and out of easy reach.

Furthermore, the Envirocycle Composter has deep grooves that make it easy to grab and turn it the recommended 3 full revolutions, every 3 days. Once the composter is full, after around 4 to 8 weeks you will have fresh, earthy smelling mature compost.

Design Features and Advantages

The Envirocycle Composter tumbler drum easily rolls off the base so that you can dump the fresh compost exactly where you need it. Because of the innovative design of the drum there is no need to reach into it with your hands or any other tools to remove the compost.

All you need to do is remove the door and then the compost can be dumped and mixed into the soil or used as a top dressing, to grow strong plants or healthy fruits and vegetables.

The Envirocycle Composter Tea Maker Base​

Another innovative design feature of the Envirocycle Composter is that the base allows you to collect the excess liquid from the tumbler drum as compost tea. This feature comprises easy-to-use drain plugs to collect powerful liquid fertilizer compost tea in the base.

You can drain compost tea from these plugs and use it as a foliar spray or a soil drench by diluting it with water (10% tea/ 90% water).

Using the Compost Tea

When sprayed on plant leaves, compost tea helps suppress foliar diseases, increases the amount of nutrients available to the plant, and helps speed up the breakdown of toxins. Using the compost tea in gardens can even eliminate the need for pesticides.

How often you need to spray the tea on plants depends on the health of the garden. It is best to spray the compost tea on a plant once they have developed their first set of leaves. 

It's important to establish a good level of beneficial insects in the garden, which will take a higher frequency rate of spraying to start with, from once a fortnight to once a month. If there are neighbours who use pesticides these will kill off the beneficial organisms as well as some of the pests (like antibiotics in humans) necessitating more frequent spraying to maintain their presence.

Once established the beneficial insects spread the compost tea organisms around the plants in the garden and will prevent any pest problems from returning.  If a good level of beneficial insects remains present in the garden spraying the tea at the start of spring once a season should be sufficient for maintenance.
